5 months pregnant… and you didn’t know???

February 18, 2013

Nope. I didn’t know I was pregnant. Not a clue.

Admittedly, an unusual post to start a new blog with but it’s where this story begins.

Fact is, nothing changed. There was no morning sickness or cravings or any of the obvious signs that I was pregnant. My periods have always been so random that I can go a couple of months at a time and not have one. So I didn’t even notice when I didn’t have one since September. Pregnant, but no symptoms. Asymptomatic.

How we met.

Liam and I have for 9 and a half years. We met November 2003 and were living together 3 months later.  I wouldn’t be without him. He’s seen me through some pretty difficult times, including the death of my sister in 2010. He’s my best friend.
We got engaged a few years ago and were planning the most awesome wedding. We were going to tour America for about a month, starting in New York & finishing with a Vegas wedding at Caesar’s Palace.

Clear Blue Pregnancy Test

All the test could tell me was that I was more than 3 weeks gestation… 20 weeks was a bit of a surprise

This February however, those plans got postponed indefinitely.

First signs.

On the evening of Liam’s birthday, once we’d climbed into bed,  I felt a little fluttering in my belly. I thought maybe it was just a rumbling inside or I’d eaten something funny and so I forgot about it straight away. The next night, I felt it again. Only this time, it dawned on me straight away what it was.
I told Liam that I could be imagining it but maybe we should get a test. We weren’t planning on kids till after the wedding. I mean, we were definitely planning on having them… just not right at that minute.

Sure enough the next day we went to get a test. I say we… Liam went on his own and I stayed in my PJs.
Once I’d seen the result I didn’t know what to say.  I’d always wanted kids but this was a shock. A happy shock, but a shock all the same. Liam could tell what the result was just based on the time I’d been in the bathroom, silent. Speechless.

Pregnant… now what?

The first word to come out of his mouth was “Blimey!” This was quickly followed by him being all quiet and practical and starting on spreadsheets and working out finances.
My job was to ring the doctor.
I looked back thru my  period tracker app   and realised my last period was as long ago as September!
I had no idea what I was doing. I’d never been pregnant, How did I know what to say??

“Erm hello, yeah, so I’m pregnant… What do I do please?”

The receptionist said she’d get a midwife to call me to make an appointment and started to take some details. She asked me some questions, one of which was how far along do I think I am?
Well, all the clear blue test could tell me was 3+ weeks but going by my periods, I made it 20 weeks! This surprised her somewhat.
So she passed the details on, the midwife called later that week and came to visit that Sunday.

And so this is where it all begins. I hope you enjoy following along with what I hope will be a wonderful story about a very happy family. Thank you for reading this far. If you want to read what happens next you can visit my post here about Midwives, scans and other dramas

Lol Well… I was dieting at that point so I’d lost a bit of weight over the year leading tup to that point but then by belly just wasn’t shrinking.. I’t wasn’t ever noticed until I’d told people and then everybody commented that my bump just grew out of nowhere over the next week or so. Crazy times!
