Weaning – Savoury vegetable rice and pitta bread

March 20, 2014

Food, what to feed your baby and when to feed them are topics that seem to come up time and time again so I though I would start posting some of the things Dexter, his dad and I eat. I’ll group them all together under one hashtag so you will be able to find them and have a look through for some inspiration. I am in no way a dietician or specially trained to advise you on what to feed your child, that’s up to you, but I am more than happy to share with you, what I feed mine.

So, todays lunch was this!

Very, very simple to throw together…
I grabbed a packet of that frozen microwave plain rice. This cooks in 4 minutes so chuck it in the microwave and let it go.
Whilst thats doing its thing, grab a handful of frozen veg. I used sweetcorn, peas, carrot, beans and broccoli. Chuck that it a small saucepan, just cover with boiling water and add a small amount of a baby vegetable stock cube to add some flavour.  (The Heinz ones are good for babies and children as they have a very low salt content and still good for the rest of the family.)
Once the rice is cooked, just throw that in the saucepan too, to soak up some of the vegetable stock. Once all of the veg is cooked how you like it, drain and serve with a pitta bread. This served one adult and one 9 month old.
