You will probably know from the name of my blog that I’m not adverse to getting a little messy and it’s a good job too with a toddler that loves crafting and baby that has just started weaning. Just lately we have been putting the Messy Me Splashmat through it’s paces.
Messy Me is a family owned business, based in Farnham that design and manufacture a range of oilcloth products aimed at families of young children and babies. I’ve been after a table cloth for a while to protect Liam’s much loved solid wood table from the aforementioned mucky bubbas so I was very pleased when the opportunity to review this one came along.
If you are a regular reader or instagram follower you’ll see we are quite often making some sort of painted project mess during our days so as soon as it arrived, I opened it out and put it on the table. You may have noticed it in the background of some of my most recent pictures.
The splash mat measures 90 x 120 cms which is a bit too small for our table but its fine for protecting the area that we would use for our activities. I chose the teal blue design with white stars but there are a few different colour/pattern options available including a floral pattern which I also quite liked. It’s worth pointing out that they also sell it to the length you require too, so if like mine, your table is large, you can still cover it.
Most of the times we have used it, we have been able to just wipe it down with a wet wipe or a cloth but I was a bit disappointed to see that Dexters spaghetti bolognese and some red paint have actually stained it. It is suitable for occasional washing in a washing machine at 30 degrees, which I have done but the stain is still there. There are some handy tips on the Messy Me website for how to remove some stains, but the way I look at it, it’s better that the stains are on the mat rather than the floor and each new stain is a mark of another fun activity or meal that we have enjoyed together so I’m not too bothered really. I knew if anyone was going to be able to put it through its paces, we were sure to and we haver certainly done that!
The splash mat can also be used underneath high chairs to protect floors too, so once Paisley has got to the ‘throw everything off my high chair tray’ stage it will move from the table to the floor instead. It’s light weight too so can easily be taken with you when out and about to protect your friends homes from your children’s mess.
The mats retail at £24 and are made of lovely soft oil cloth. Messy Me do a range of other products such as high chair covers, aprons and clutch bags which are ideal for carrying wipes and nappies.
