Today we had our 20 week scan. We had a female sonographer, which we’ve never had before but I’m so glad as she seemed to spend a lot longer on going over and checking various things and explaining to us what she was seeing. We were both amazed at how clear it was as she focused on each limb and everything.
We could see the tiny little heart beating away and when she zoomed in on its face it looked the spitting image of Dexter! It was easily the best scan I’ve ever seen.
All of the measurements she took were as they should be and the heart was beating well so all fit and healthy. The only bit that wasn’t perfect is that the placenta is lying low so she’s booked us in for another scan at 32 weeks.
With Dexter, I knew that he was a boy. I told the sonographer that too, all he did was confirm it. This time round I’ve not been so sure but I had a feeling it was a girl. The thing is, once people know you’re pregnant, its one of the first things they ask. “Do you know what you’re having? Which would you prefer? What does Liam think? Are you going to find out?” And whilst I don’t mind these questions, (it’s nice that people are taking an interest) to me, it really makes no odds. A boy would be easier in terms of clothing as we have kept everything of Dexters but at the same time one of each would be lovely and buying lots of new clothes would be fun(as long as they aren’t pink – I hate pink). I’m not a strong believer in gender stereo types so if it is a girl, she won’t be brought up on princesses and dolls unless thats what she chooses. Likewise, I don’t insist that Dexter plays with cars and does sports. He loves playing with his pink buggy and his baby and if thats what he wants to play with then so be it.
Once we’d found out the sex of the baby, we headed off to buy a balloon for Dexter and something for the baby to wear. I already had my eye on a cute little purple vest in the ‘little bird’ range in Mothercare and I’d been hoping I would have a reason to buy it…
Balloon and clothes in hand, we headed back to my mums to collect Dexter… We wanted him to be involved with the gender reveal as this is every bit as much his baby as it is ours so we decided it only fair for him to tell you wether he is having a baby brother or a baby sister…
So over to him….
And there it is.. Baby Rickerby number 2 is a girl. Estimated due date 24th Jan 2016.
