Ghosties and pumpkins and paint, Oh my!

November 3, 2015

We didn’t do much for hallowe’en this year.
Normally I take Dexter out with all of his cousins but they all have other plans and one of them is at a sleep over etc and I really don’t fancy walking about for that long in my current situation. Especially not to collect sweets I probably wouldn’t’ve let him eat anywayhalloween art2

So instead of all the fancy dress and tonnes of sugar, we decided to do some spooky potato printing.

Potato printing is probably one of the easiest crafts going these days, so you don’t have to be addicted to pinterest or have A levels in art to do it.

halloween artAll we did was cut a potato in half, carve a handle into the outside parts and then a spooky shape on the inside. If you aren’t all that brilliant at free handing this you can use cookie cutters, in fact, they probably look better if I’m honest.

We opted for a pumpkin and a ghost (mainly so I didn’t have to get lots of colours out)
Dexter didn’t know what we were doing until I brought the paint into the living room so I managed to cut the shapes out in peace and without accidents.

I showed him what to do and let him get on with it. We discussed the colours and the shapes and then he got stuck in with smearing it around with his hands. He really does love getting messy, even if thats not the idea!

We weren’t completely boring this year, I did put a bit of facepaint on him and let him open the door but only 2 groups knocked so I still have loads of sweets hidden in the cupboard and he did sit and do a baby pumpkin with his dad. What did you get up to on halloween?PhotoGrid_1446555896387

Ah sounds like a fun halloween. I like potato painting and trying to get my son to be happy with paint then we’ll move on to potato painting! Nice face paints too! #bestandworst

Potato printingis so easy But dexter is still at that stage where he’ll do it properly, and then he’ll just stick his hands in and smear it everywhere. Can sometimes be lethal in a rented house haha

Good on you! Loved his little pirate face. But mention paint, glue and glitter and I am out of there! Think I need to be more brave for the sake of my kids. At least we’re coming in to summer now, so craft activities can be done outside and everything hosed down. Cheers. #bestandworst

Your Halloween crafts are so cute. I’ve been meaning to do potato printing for absolutely ages with mine. They look so cute. Perhaps I’ll get round to it at Christmas time!
