The idea of the Friday Phone Dump is pretty much exactly what you would expect. I take lots of ‘unpretty’ or ‘not worthy of instagram’ photos on my phone. Pictures that if you follow the rules (Ha! Me?), shouldn’t be in a blog post. But the way I see it is those pictures are real. Those pictures are what I/the kids/the house look like every day and why shouldn’t I share them? Why should I only show the pictures where I’ve cropped out the mess?
So here’s what we’ve been up to since last Friday.
Well, to be honest, not a lot. We went to my mums on Saturday for a bit of lunch. She’d recorded something for me on a channel I don’t have so I’d gone round to watch that and while I was there I had a little bit of a play on my sister’s camera. I know these pictures don’t really count as phone fodder but I edited them on my phone if that counts?
On Tuesday, parents of Dexter’s class were invited to a phonics chat at his school. It was a really informal, friendly little chat about how they teach our children phonics, what order they teach them in and many fun ways in which they do it. They also shared a few ideas of how we as parents can help them further at home and encourage a love of books and reading.
While I was in his classroom I happened to catch a glimpse of some of his artwork on the wall. On his first day, He painted a self-portrait and was encouraged to look in the mirror to check things like his eye colour and hair colour. How cute is this for the first piece of school work? So proud of my boy.
While I was in the phonics meeting, Dexter and Paisley went next door into the nursery. The Nursery staff absolutely made my day when they told me that he’d really looked after his sister and held her hand the whole time. Even when he needed the loo, he went to a member of staff and said: “I need a wee, can you look after my sister please?” Now if that doesn’t just melt your heart, you must be made of stone. They fight like animals at home but I know they love each other. And she really misses him when he’s at school.
On Thursday I let Paisley loose in his school playground while we waited for Dexter to finish. She made short work of the climbing frame and wasn’t at all phased by the bigger kids running around. For a week where we haven’t really done much, it sure has made me super proud of my babies. They have their moments, of course.. but they’re bloody ACE!
So what has your week been like? Do let me know in the comments. Have you got a child that’s just started school? How are they (and you) finding it? I feel as though I’ve joined a sort of club. I’m a #SchoolRunMum now! Haha
