I was very lucky with baby weight I think. I was on a diet when I found out I was 5 months pregnant so had already lost a fair bit of weight. I wasn’t starving myself, I was just eating very healthily and exercising. This weight continued to stay off through the rest of my pregnancy and then when I breast fed, obviously I was burning extra calories so looked better than I had done in years.
Now I’m back at work, Dexter is combination bottle/breast fed. I still breast feed first thing in the morning and sometimes at nap time if he wants it. He’ll have a bottle in the evening when I’m working and has some water with/after his meals which means now, I’m breastfeeding a lot less.
When I first started breastfeeding I was told to increase my calories and not to diet so that I don’t burn more than I consume. So now that I’m not doing it as much, I’m not burning the same amount of calories as I was. All of my ‘new mum’ jeans that I treated myself to, that were smaller sizes, are now getting too tight. The belly flab I got rid of is coming back with a vengeance and I work silly hours so when I get in I’m hungry and therefore eat late at night.
I need to sort out some sort of routine of when I have my dinner and what I have. I need to get a bit more active and I need to stop snacking.
I need to be quite strict too. I don’t want to go back to being fat, I want to be able run around with my son when he finally learns how to. I want to take him on bike rides and things. I don’t wanna be out of breath just walking across to the swings. Dexter is my motivation for a lot of things these days, I just hope I can get my arse in gear on this one. Suggestions of mummy fitness/health ideas are very welcome. Especially those that cost nothing or very, very little.
Thanks in advance!
