Weeks Gestation – 37+2.
Due Date – 24th Jan.
Size of baby – Who knows?!?! My bump is still measuring big for dates so I have yet another growth scan towards the end of the week. Big is what she is. Big and sticky-outy.
Sleep – Sleep is a bit hit and miss. Sometimes I wake up feeling refreshed and calm. sometimes I wake up 3 times a night or just end up sitting on the edge of the bed because I’m so uncomfortable.
Food cravings – None. Sometimes I feel like eating, sometimes I don’t and theres no pattern to anything I want. I’ll tell you what though, It was tough getting through Christmas without eating pate. Especially as there was so much of it about just taunting me.
Baby developments – She’s pretty much cooked now and could arrive at anytime. Her head is down but not yet engaged. I’m still getting the heartburn so I know she’s not moved down just yet. Her lungs are mature enough for her to be able to breath although they will cope better if she’s left a little longer and her tummy is full of meconium. Lovely.
My bump – As above, is measuring large for dates. In fact I caught a glimpse of my reflection in the oven door last week when I was putting a load of washing on and I was so shocked at the size. I don’t normally get to see it from that angle, I only see the birds eye view so it was a bit of a ‘woah’ moment. You can even see my belly button!
Belly button – As above… constantly outy now. It can even be seen through my tops.
Me – To be honest? I’m done! The last week has seen me at 4 different appointments for monitoring and blood tests and all sorts of things as My blood pressure has risen. I was induced at 37+2 weeks with Dexter because of high blood pressure so they have kept their eyes on me through most of this pregnancy too and up until now, all has been fine. I actually thought I’d be ok and get the water birth I really wanted. Sadly though, it looks as if I shall be induced and wont get it how I’d like. They haven’t said specifically that I will be induced but they have hinted more than once that it looks like that is what will happen. Especially if my blood results don’t change or my BP doesn’t go down etc etc. I’ve been there already, I don’t hold much hope of being left to it. At my appointment today we discussed my birthing plan. I originally wanted a water birth but if I’m induced, they aren’t likely to let me in the pool as they’ll want to constantly monitor me. I decided a while back that I didn’t want her to have one of those horrible NHS cord clamps as with Dexter, we knocked it a couple of times and I was always scared I’d hurt him. It got in the way of nappies and just didn’t look at all comfortable so this time round we have decided on a cord tie. A cord tie is basically a string alternative to the clip that you tie round the cord instead. They are normally made from embroidery thread and either plaited or crocheted. I’ve been having a play and managed to make some myself as practice. I just need to decide on
what colour I want and then make one for Baby.
Baby items purchased – Pretty much everything we need now has been purchased. We didn’t really need much anyway as we kept everything of Dexter’s. I would’ve loved a new pram/travel system but funds just aren’t that flexible right now. Not with us having just got through Christmas. I mentioned in my last post that I’d managed to get a bargain of a stretchy wrap for wearing her so she probably wont go in a pram that much anyway. We could do with some more muslins as ours are a couple of years old but thats about all. She has some cute little girly clothes, some tights, socks and things. She has a new play mat for laying on the floor, we’ve got all the nappies and cotton wool and essential bits etc. I’m thinking on the spot now and my mind has gone blank as to what we’ve got but we had lists and got pretty much everything. The only thing we haven’t bought is a changing mat but I’m not too worried about that. We can change her on a towel if we don’t get one in time.
Hospital bag – Packed! Done! Finished! The only thing missing from that is my V cushion but I’m still using that. I have spare toiletries that I’ve packed so I don’t need to worry about forgetting my tooth brush and things. I have colouring books/pens to pass the time, a spare phone charger packed too and of course all the important things like maternity pads, underwear, breast pads, loose clothing and then nappies and clothes etc for her. Even Liam has a clean top, tooth brush and deodorant.
I’ve also packed a bag for Dexter in case we need him to stay somewhere over night. I may even write a separate post on whats in my bag.
Baby Names – Her name was announced in a previous countdown style post leading up to Christmas. Her name is Paisley Niamh. A friend of mine suggested Paisley and I fell in love with it straight away. It helps that it’s the surname of one of my favourite singers.
What I’m looking forward to – I have a baby shower this weekend that my cousin is throwing for me. I’m excited for that, to play some games and see some friends before she arrives but mostly now I’m just looking forward to meeting her and kissing her little face! I cant wait to wear her in my wrap, I cant wait for our first selfie as a foursome, I can’t wait for Dexter to have his first cuddle and I just can’t wait to bring her home! Ohhh and getting rid of this sodding heartburn!!
How is Dexter dealing with it? – He’s starting to get a bit more excited now. I was showing him how I will wear her and then got my scarf and let him have a go at wearing his doll. He just looks so cute it melted me. I can see maybe a little bit of jealousy lurking as we got Paisley a tummy time play mat and he wanted to play on it. I’ve got his out of the garage and washed it so if anything does kick off there we have a back up but to be honest, I’d much rather see him lay with her and share her mat too.
He’s still looking after me really well. He studies what the midwives do and then copies them when we get home so he is always checking my belly and things. He’s recognising that there are extra things in the washing that aren’t his, mine or Liam’s and is able to tell us who’s they are. I can’t quite believe that in just a few weeks, he’ll be a big brother!! He’s still so little, but I know he’s going to be amazing.
There is a chance this will be my last update before she arrives. With my BP, bloods and constant appointments (honestly, I have one and come out with 2 more!) I may not get chance to write another one (this one has taken all evening). I hope I do, but we’ll see how it goes. If not, then I guess the next post you read will be introducing our newest addition! Can’t wait!
As always, thanks for reading xx
