Pregnancy and Birth

Pregnancy update – 23 weeks.

September 30, 2015

23+3:2

Weeks Gestation – 23+3

Due date – 24th Jan 2016

Size of baby – Head to heel, baby is about 11.38 inches long, and weighs almost 1.1 lb so apparently about the size of a grapefruit.

Stretch marks? Still no more than what I had before but they are more visible. I have finally got some more coconut oil so I’m trying to use that every day 🙂

Sleep: Much the same as last time, still waking up once a night on average for water and then to pee.

Food cravings: Cravings have passed, what little I had of them. I’m just finding myself eating lots of little snacky bits rather than full on meals.

Morning sickness: None. Not since the odd few rough days at the start

Gender: Girl! We had our 20 weeks scan at the start of this month and I was really surprised at how happy I was to find out she’s a girl. I had a feeling she was, but you never know for sure.

Baby developments – She’s moving about in there like nobodies business, Especially when I’m at work in the evenings. It’s nice that she keeps me company.  In terms of what she looks like, she’s almost fully developed. Just needs fattening up. Inside though, her organs are getting stronger every day to prepare for for life on the outside.

My bump – Is getting massive. Well, it feels like it is! Shoes and socks are becoming difficult to put on. Hardly any of my clothes seem to fit me any more. I’m in need of some serious shopping hahaha. Also, I can barley climb in my shower without rubbing my belly on the door and I struggle to reach Dexters bowls in the cupboard so may have to move them!23+3

Me – I’ve been trying to cut down on caffeine but I find if I don’t have any I get terrible headaches and then feel a bit dizzy so I’m allowing myself enough to function. Everything in moderation, right? Heartburn is a bitch! I remember it from last time and boy did it kill me then too! My boobs are growing out of control and I just cant seem to sit comfortably for very long, especially at work.
My placenta is currently blocking her exit so I have another scan at 32 weeks to see if its moved. I’ve googled this and I kind of wish I hadn’t as if it doesn’t move, I may have to have a Caesarean (which I really don’t want) along with a few weeks stay in hospital. I’ve tried to put it to the back of my mind as the more I read, the more worked up I was getting. We’ll just have to see what happens at the next scan and take it from there.
I’ve started planning my mat leave and using up the last of this years holiday allowance too. Just waiting for my next midwifes appt so I can grab my MatB1 form and then hand it in

Exercise – Walking to and from work most days which is a 10/15 min walk each way (sometimes Liam drives me) plus twice a week I walk Dexter to preschool which is just over an hour round trip. Mum normally brings him back for me though so I don’t have to do that twice in a day!

Baby items purchased – On the last update, we only had a moses basket. Knowing that she is a girl has meant we have been able to get more sorted. She currently has a beautiful John Lewis wardrobe (albeit second hand but we aren’t bothered about that!) On our Gender reveal blog post, you’ll see a few of vests that we bought for her too. She has since been given lots of things from friends that have had girls previously too, she already has more clothes than me! One friend has also given us an all singing, all vibrating baby chair for her too.

Wardrobe
Baby’s room – Yeah…… thats not gunna happen any time soon. Still so many boxes that we haven’t unpacked stopping us from sorting her room out but we aren’t in any rush for that as she’ll be in with us at first anyway.

Baby Names – Her name is chosen. Around the house we refer to her by name but out with others she is known as baby.

I’m unsure as yet but I may do a name reveal on social media as we did with Dexters… Maybe.

What I’m looking forward to – Being able to film her movements! You can see her kick when watching but so far my camera hasn’t picked it up. I cant wait to share that with you!

How is Dexter dealing with it? – He’s actually designated himself chief coconut oil smearer! He’s such a good boy for mummy and he now randomly kisses my belly too.

Aw so lovely! Glad Dexter is being a good boy and yay for picking a name! Look forward to finding out what she’s called, either before or after she’s born!xx

Thanks lovely. Yeah I’m amazed at how good he is. He often asks if he can talk to bubba and then lifts my top up. Funny boy. I’ve told a couple of people her name. It’s just not so common so I don’t want people stealing it ha ha.

Oh my goodness I remember the heartburn. Everyone told me it was because the baby had a lot of hair but that turned out to be rubbish. You can get Gaviscon on prescription if it continues to cause you problems – it was the only thing that got me through!
Congrats on the pink bump x

I plan on stocking up at my next appointment haha. I had the same with Dexter and went through bottles of the stuff! He was born with a fair bit of hair though, you could actually see in it his last scan.

Congrats on the little girl on her way. It sounds like things are going well. I wouldn’t stress about a potential C-section. I had planned for a totally natural childbirth, practiced the positions and massage techniques with my husband and then had a placental abruption at 33 weeks. Emergency c-section it was! In the end all I cared about was having a healthy baby and it sounds like you are well on your way to having exactly that, a healthy and lovely baby girl. #mummymonday

Yeah they always say make a birth plan but it rarely goes how you want it to does it?

We knew our daughter’s name as soon as we found out we were expecting a girl but kept it a secret until she was born. We told people the gender so thought we’d like at least one secret so we kept it to ourselves. 🙂

Dexter sounds like such a sweetie and I’m glad he’s looking after his mama so well.

Lol you’ve said I’m big and somebody on one of my other updates said I’m small. I just feel like this one is all in the front and completely in the way! Haha

Your bump is growing away! I didn’t get a proper bump until about 30 weeks, I just looked fat from about 12, so I’m jealous of you and your baby bump!
